Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 4 slices thick bread brioche, challah, or French bread
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Maple syrup powdered sugar, and fresh berries (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Custard: In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until smooth.
  • Soak the Bread: Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture for 20-30 seconds per side, ensuring it’s well-coated but not soggy.
  • Heat the Pan: Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add a pat of butter and let it melt, swirling to coat the surface.
  • Cook the French Toast: Place the soaked bread slices on the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Serve and Garnish: Serve warm, topped with maple syrup, powdered sugar, and fresh berries.

Notes

Use slightly stale bread for better absorption of the custard mixture. Cook over medium heat to avoid burning the toast before it cooks through.
