Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can 14 oz diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Add tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir well and bring to a simmer.
  • Reduce heat and let the sauce simmer uncovered for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve over cooked spaghetti, garnished with fresh parsley or Parmesan cheese.

Notes

For a richer flavor, let the sauce simmer longer. You can also make a large batch and freeze portions for future use.
