  • Baking Sheet

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar optional, for slight sweetness
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter cubed
  • 3/4 cup cold buttermilk or whole milk
  • 1 tbsp melted butter for brushing

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  • Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Slowly pour in the buttermilk, mixing gently with a spatula until the dough comes together.
  • Transfer dough onto a floured surface, pat down to 1/2-inch thickness, and cut out biscuits using a round cutter.
  • Place biscuits on the baking sheet, brush tops with melted butter, and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  • Let the biscuits cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with butter, honey, or jam!

Notes

For the flakiest biscuits, ensure your butter and buttermilk are as cold as possible. Avoid overworking the dough to keep them light and airy.
